Bikes & Diapers Can Rock!
I am starting to catch up on some photo processing and here are some cool ones of the bicycle diaper cake I made for a co-worker’s baby shower back in May (whose daughter was just born – yay!)
First bicycle diaper cake I’ve ever made
Here are the favors I put together for the party:
Everything turned out great and I was really happy with the cake, favors, AND pictures.

1 commentCraft Show-and-Tell for 7/9/09
I’m doing a quick blog update while the boys are out shopping for nerdy computer parts (by boys, I mean Christian and our friend Kevin who is visiting from L.A.)
I baked my cinnamon bread last night. Yum again. Cross one off the list.
I had crocheted a few things that were not on my list before I created my actual list, and wanted to mention them here:
Moonfruit – for a contest that moonfruit.com was having:
Cheetos Giant Cheese Puffs for a Co-worker as a thank-you gift for my free iPhone case (Giant cheese puffs are an inside joke):
A slice of bacon for my manager who gave me a WWBD (What Would Bacon Do?) Spinning wheel from Kentucky:
2 Cupcake Scarves that friends of a friend wanted to buy (they look indentical, I know):

And finally, sushi (maguro, to get specific) that I made for Kevin (our friend in town):
(JK – I hope this wasn’t disappointing. Glad I already had this one cranked out to show you!)
I’m currently working on some bookmarks, but also trying to re-read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince before the movie comes out Wednesday, so I might be a little slow in my crafting this weekend/coming week. We’ll see.
No commentsCrafting Ambition Overload!
I’ve been sitting in the office/craft corner for 15 minutes debating about which craft project to start up next. I just finished making 2 cupcake scarves for some friends of a friend (first time selling stuff I’ve made and it’s kinda weird, but whatever). Now that those are done, I have a bazillion other things I want to make – just not sure where to start…
Here’s my list:
- Crochet sushi
- Crochet turkey drumstick
- Crochet pear
- Crochet ice cream sandwich
- Crochet ice cream cone
- Crochet chocolate chip cookies
- Crochet strawberries
- Crochet bunny rabbit
- Crochet roses
- Crochet Sack Boy
- Crochet mini-monkey
- Crochet blanket (that’s a huge project)
- Make Cute Stuff tote
- Make Cute Stuff sack
- Bake bread (to be done on 7/8)
- Sculpt Fimo cupcakes for glazing
- Sculpt Fimo ice cream
- Make bookmarks
- Finish scrapbooking the rest of 2008 (I left off in March 2008 – another huge project)
- Make Iron Man blankets (2)
- Make pocketed skirt (haven’t decided on red or blue yet)
- Make bubble skirt
I’m sure there’s more to add to the list. Those are just the first few things I was able to come up with immediately. Each project has a purpose and several have more flexible timelines than others.
Marathon crafting – here I come!
1 commentInspired by WonderCon 2009
I stopped by many booths at WonderCon in SF today. Lots of cute and creative things up on display and for sale. Cute fleece hats and creature ears were popular this year. I was intrigued by one booth that was selling pairs of furry clip-on cat ears for $10. They were all hand-made by the lady running the booth and her mother. I really wanted a pair… wasn’t sure what I’d do with it, but they were really cute. I decided to study the ears and make my own. Just so happens I have fur, felt, and a pair of hair clips in stock at home. So I made these guys:
Cute, no? I might even be brave enough to wear them to the Con tomorrow

More Crafting
I was inspired to make a fleece tie blanket this weekend, so I did. I spent a few hours not sewing this baby together Sunday night. I think it’s cute. I made it for a friend’s newborn (once she’s born). Hope she likes it…

Obsessed or Inspired?
Soo… I spent a few hours last night and today making these:
I was inspired by a project that was posted on a blog that I was very recently introduced to and totally ran with it. Ended up with 20 fabric bookmarks… Anyone like to read?

And finally… here’s the video!

No commentsSan Jose 48 Hour Film Project 2008
The 48 Hour Film Project for San Jose started 7:30 PM Friday and ended 7:30 PM tonight. The genre Christian & Jason pulled was fantasy. The required prop was a pin. The required character was Chris or Christie Doyle the drummer. The required line of dialogue was “What just happened?”
Christian & Jason, of course, went in full force and came out with an excellent end product (in my opinion). I spent Friday night – Saturday morning cranking out two wizard costumes and assembled several props. Christian had to take Lily to obedience class alone Saturday morning because I was way behind schedule and was still assembling wizard robe #2. Thank goodness class ran late because that bought me an extra 15 much-needed minutes to sew sleeves on! I played photographer all day Saturday while the guys shot their footage. At about 5 PM, I started feeling the onset of exhaustion and realized that my mind was a little gone when I started texting in Gibberish to Jason’s wife, Sharon. After 40 sleepless hours, I finally hit the sack for a much-needed 11 hours last night. I still feel completely exhausted, but it’s very satisfying to know everything we accomplished in a mere two days.
I’ll post photos and pictures as soon as they get uploaded.
The film will be shown on the big screen at the Camera 12 theaters downtown this coming Wednesday for those of you who are in need of plans Wednesday night and want to support us (at least help vote for us to win the audience award!) It’s the Camera 12 Cinemas on Second street. The films start at 7:30. Hope to see some of you there!

Did you all just think to yourself, “Is she talking to me???” LOL! Love it
Today, I’m calling out TDog, a loyal reader and commenter!
Anyway, I got excited about the wedding talk, (especially since I don’t have to do any of it for my own wedding EVER AGAIN) I thought I’d post a few helpful things on here for you or anyone else who happens to be planning a wedding.
Here’s what I did for my wedding favors:
* White frosted mini take out boxes from Uline.com – the boxes themselves came out to about $.45 a box.
* Bought the ribbon from http://www.efavormart.com – I actually found them and bought off of them via eBay – super-smooth service. They have TONS of other wedding supplies
* Snowflake sticker from Oriental Trading Co.
* Mini glue dots from Michael’s:

* Personalized fortune cookies from Fortunecookiestore.com
* Truffle Hershey’s kisses from Target
* Glass stones from Walmart
Here’s adhesive info that might be helpful for your invitations:

And Here’s a blurb about the role of the bridesmaids:
The history of the bridesmaid varies across cultures, religions and time periods. In early Roman times, bridesmaids formed a kind of bridal infantry as they accompanied the bride to the groom’s village. This “protective shield” of similarly outfitted bridesmaids was supposed to intervene if any wayward thugs or vengeful suitors tried to hurt the bride or steal her dowry.
However, the Western bridesmaid tradition seems to have originated from later Roman law, which required ten witnesses at a wedding in order to outsmart evil spirits believed to attend marriage ceremonies. The bridesmaids and ushers dressed in identical clothing to the bride and groom, so that the evil spirits wouldn’t know who was getting married. Even as late as 19th century England, the belief that ill-wishers could administer curses and taint the wedding still existed. In Victorian wedding photographs, for example, it can take quite a bit of inspection to pick out the bride and groom from among the other members of the bridal party!
The Modern Day Bridesmaid
These early customs continue to have an influence today. The expression “thrice a bridesmaid, never a bride” arose from the bridesmaid’s interception of, and gradual infection by (over the course of three weddings), the evil spirits trying to disrupt the ceremony! And, although the bridal party no longer functions as a troop of foot soldiers, bridesmaid dresses are still commonly chosen in harmony with the look and feel of the wedding. The bridal party continues to serve a vital role in the wedding process, not by fending off hexes and robbers, but by providing key support staff and an advisory board. Besides being an honored member of the wedding party and special guest at the reception, today’s bridesmaid is also designated as the bride’s special assistant. From shopping for dresses to scouting hotels for out-of-town guests to writing place cards to hosting a bridal shower, her first duty is to be helpful. The payoff is that walk down the aisle, looking absolutely beautiful in a gown that is stylish, sophisticated, colorful and absolutely wearable. In 21st century America, bridesmaids are chosen to be caring helpers, thoughtful organizers and skillful liaisons.
Hope this helped some…
No commentsA Domestic Weekend
I have a busy and domestic weekend ahead of me (I’m sure some of you have it much worse, but it’s my blog, so I get to complain
). This may look familiar to some of you:
For those who don’t know the suffering of the vertically-challenged, this is what I have to deal with everytime I buy pants.
I also have the following few tasks to look forward to in the next few days:
-Organize our mess in the living room
-Find hiding places for the random junk on our kitchen table and floor
-Vacuum the house
-Re-caulk the bathroom
-Re-buff the bathroom counter
And probably laundry. When isn’t there laundry?
You’re reading the blog of a girl who knows how to have a good time during her weekends off
Pizza from scratch
Look friends! I made pizza from scratch today!
I made:
*Pesto ranch w/ garlic, tomato, & basil
*Garlic, tomato, basil, olives
*Garlic, tomato, basil, olives, salame
Here’s how it started:
And here they are all baked (a tad overbaked but that’s okay) and ready to be eaten!
I’ll definitely do this again. Didn’t take long at all.
Good Eats!
1 commentFrench Breadiness
I baked bread for the first time yesterday:
I think I needed to activate the yeast a bit more because it was a little dense. Still good, just heavy… Christian loves it, apparently. It’s a good thing he has three loaves to eat up.
