The Zach Who Saved Christmas

There’s been another long span of blankness on my blog that I must profusely apologize for.  SORRY SORRY SORRY!  Lots has happened between July and today (mid-August), but let’s focus on the 48 Hour Film Project since the screening for our movie is Thursday night…  Yes, this will be a plug.  Come see the movie and score a homemade sugar cookie!

This past weekend, Christian & Jason took part in the 48 Hour Film Project San Jose as “Beyond Forever Studios” (http://www.beyondforeverstudios.com/). This is the 4th year that they have participated in this and the 5th movie that they have produced for the competition overall.

How it works (from the 48hourfilm.com website):
The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 48 hours.  On Friday night, you get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. Then it will show at a local theater, usually in the next week.

So that’s what we did this past weekend.  Christian and Jason pulled holiday film as their required genre, so they went for Christmas.  I’m resident costumer for these guys in this particular project and just about every year, I pull a Friday all-nighter to get all of the costumes and props together.  Jason’s wife Sharon and I drove around town this past Friday night to pick up fabric, craft pieces, and various props and I hit the sewing machine once we made our purchases.  I didn’t have enough time to make everything that I originally planned to, but everything that I did finish was sufficient enough for the project.

They wanted an exaggerated piece from a board game…

I was awake for a little over 39 hours this past weekend (Friday morning-Saturday night) – probably the longest that I’ve ever stayed awake EVER.  It was rough.  Well, the day after was the roughest.  The day of was just a little surreal and busy…

Anywho, the film was submitted on time and the only major incident was losing our original location.  We got really lucky and scored another place to shoot, thanks to Shady Shakespeare…

The movie screening will be tomorrow night.  It will be shown with a number of other films that were submitted for the project.  After all films are shown, the audience gets to vote for a favorite.  I’m shooting for us to win the audience award for this film.  I think the guys did a great job and it’s probably the best 48 hour film they have made to date.  They’ve won 3 audience awards in years past, so it’d be awesome if this film, “The Zach Who Saved Christmas” could help them reclaim the audience favorite title.

Side note – I baked Christmas sugar cookies for the boys to pass out and market themselves with.  They took forever to make, so those cookies better go like hotcakes.
