Blue Apron: A First Experience

Posted on February 25, 2015

I tried something completely different for dinner at home tonight. I bit the bullet and gave Blue Apron a shot. For those who don't know what it is, go look: https://www.blueapron.com/. The quick and dirty of it is that you pick meals that you want to prepare for the week (either 2 or 3/4-person meals), you give them your credit card number, they send you all the ingredients and instructions you need to make your food, and you prep and cook, ...

ABC’s Fresh off the Boat: One Chinese-American Female’s West Coast Perspective

Posted on February 7, 2015

After watching the premiere of ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat” earlier this week, I marinated a bit over the similarities and differences between my experiences growing up as an American-born Chinese and those portrayed on this new, semi-controversial break-out comedy. There were a good, giant handful of interesting comparisons I’d made in my head over the past few days and decided I’d bite the bullet, write my thoughts down, and share ...

First Step on a New Path

Posted on April 15, 2012

It's been uber-long since my last post. Mainly because I was trying to adapt to some formatting updates. Who cares at this point; I'd rather just post an update for those who still tune in to my little blog. After 6.5 years at Yahoo!, I said "see you later" to my Yahoo! family (they will all forever hold a special place in my heart) and am about to embark on a new adventure with a company in Mountain View, Rhythm NewMedia. My team and ...

My First Half Marathon: SJ Rock ‘n’ Roll 2011

Posted on October 4, 2011

Hi Friends, This past Sunday, I ran my very first half marathon. Christian has been running this one for a few years now and I was always on the other side of the tracks playing photographer, trying to capture his big  finish. In fact, here's his first half marathon finish: This year, I decided to give it a shot. I trained like mad, creating a habit of running 6 days a week (I really needed to cross-train, but ended up focusing on a steady ...

From Our Garden…

Posted on September 13, 2011

I was coming back back from a morning run this past weekend and as I ran past our new rose bush, I noticed the awesome dewdrops on our beautiful yellow roses that just bloomed. Our gardener scored us this rose bush for our side yard because he saw that someone was going to toss it. Instead of leaving it to die in someone's pile of lawn clippings, he brought it over to our house and planted it by our fence. I was sure the thing had no life left; ...

Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookie Madness

Posted on September 12, 2011

Over Labor Day Weekend 2011, I made Oreo-stuffed chocolate chip cookies. This is the fourth time I've made Oreo-stuffed cookies; the first two times were with Mini Oreos. Regular-sized Oreos definitely have a better taste to them. The Oreo-to-chocolate Chip cookie ratio is just better. These are now one of Christian's new favorite cookies. My challenge for the next time I make these is to make them look prettier...   ...

Toy Society Drops #4 & #5

Posted on May 21, 2011

Last weekend, Christian and I headed down south for a few days to attend a baby shower and visit a few of our L.A. friends. While we were down there, I made two toy drops. First toy drop was at the Promenade in Santa Monica.  I left it next to a triceratops sculpture. An hour after dropping it off, I went back and noticed that it was picked up (yay!) Later that same day, I dropped off another crochet cupcake in a geocache* on the ...

Toy Society Drop #3

Posted on April 23, 2011

I was worried I wouldn't get an opportunity to make this drop in time for Easter, but I was able to sneak it in last minute - woohoo! Crochet Easter Bunny Peeps - I found the pattern on Ravelry.com (Thanks, Amanda - I forgot I had signed up!) I dropped these little guys off on a bench inside of the Great Mall in Milpitas near a kid's play area. Hope they find a nice home soon!

Toy Society Drop #2

Posted on April 19, 2011

Made my second toy drop this past Friday (this was before the aforementioned creepy lurker incident when life was simpler and times were happier).  I tied a cute little cupcake to the side door of a tutoring center in Sunnyvale, CA across from Fremont High School. Hope someone takes this little one home and sends a snapshot of its adoption...

Creepy Lurker

Posted on April 15, 2011

Dear Friends, As I was checking out and taking photos of the progress of our home addition in the backyard tonight, I saw this creepy lurker's hand pulling down a palm frond from our tree outside of our side yard as if he was using it to leverage himself to peek over our fence: Like an idiot, I shouted, "HELLO?!" and scared him away instead of waiting for my money shot of him popping over my fence since I had my camera pointed right in ...

Toy Society Drop #1

Posted on April 10, 2011

Thanks to a posting by a Facebook friend a few days ago, I made my way into joining The Toy Society (www.thetoysociety.blogspot.com) and made my first drop today. Read all about the purpose and how it all works on the Toy Society page.  See below for the handmade bunny I made this weekend and dropped off today.  I tied the toy to the doorknob of a kindergarten classroom at a local church that was hosting a great event called the Empty Bowls ...

30 is the Magic Number

Posted on June 18, 2010

On this, my 30th birthday, I've finally decided to take a moment to update my blog.  I must say this about every other entry but an update is looooong overdue.  I'm trying to write this up while watching Mad Men (the last thing on my birthday to-do list for the evening), so please bear with me through any grammatical atrocities. Before I get into the awesomeness that has been my 30th birthday today, I want to share the story of my past 6 ...

Canada & Christmas

Posted on December 29, 2009

My grandmother passed away on December 16th, 2009 - This was also our third year wedding anniversary.  The last time I remember seeing her was at our wedding in 2006.  It’s hard to lose anyone during this time of year, but it’s even harder for me to think of our wedding anniversary AND Christmas without thinking about her.I didn’t know my grandmother very well.  She lived with my family for about a year before moving to ...
